Mountain Biking (MTB) is a fantastic summer activity, and here in La Clusaz there is something for everyone. Dedicated downhill course for the more professional riders, graded x-country courses for those who just love long rides with a bit of a challenge and 14 family circuits that everyone can enjoy.

Our organised MTB weekends cater for both x-country and downhill riders. Fly Thursday or Friday night and ride with one of our guides all day Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Experience some of the best rides in La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, and have a unique day out at Semnoz by the shores of the stunning Lake Annecy. Accomodation, all meals and transport are included in our packages. Contact us to find out when our next organised MTB weekend is happening.

Many of the winter ski lifts (Beauregard, Patinoire, Cret du Merle, Le Loup and Etale) in La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand (La Rosay ad La Chat) are adapted to take mountain bikes in the summer (June - mid September), which can take you to various summits of up to 2000m. Perfect for starting a long ride and for focusing on your downhill technique. The lift prces range from 4.5€ - 7.5€ per return ride or day prices from 7.5€. Passes with 10, 20 or 50 ascents are also available from 38€ or a weeks pass is 65€ per adult and 40€ for a child. This one covers you for the whole of the Aravis area, which includes le Grand Bornand, Manigod and St Jean de Sixt (the summer resort shuttle bus is also included). The lifts run from the 23rd June - 10th September.

Xcountry

Similar to the winter ski slopes the xcountry mountain biking circuits are graded by difficulty from green to black and vary in length, which provides a good guide to how much can be ridden in a day. The most difficult (black) circuits can vary from 3.5km to 25km, and are mainly hard uphill mountainous terrain, with challenging gradients on the downhill, and best left to the most experiences riders. The green and blue circuits can be tackled by almost anyone, especially children, who have ridden a bit before. The trails still need a bit of negotiating at some points on the circuits, but on the whole the terrain they cover is a lot gentler. The red circuits provide more challenging rides for the intermediate mountain bikers and vary from 3km to 13km.

We provide all our MTB guests with a local map to help you navigate your way and plan your midway lunch breaks at various picnic spots or mountain refuges. The map gives details of the angle of climb or descent, and small reviews of the circuits (of which there are 20 in La Clusaz alone). Picnics can be provided if you are planning to out and about for the whole day.

If you join us before the lifts or the summer shuttle bus route starts, then we will happily drop you and your bike off at the start of your ride and meet you at the end ( if you haven't planned a route which ends back at the chalet).

the ferraz

This summer 2005, saw the opening of a new challenging VTT run from the Beauregard lift in La Clusaz. It offers experienced mountain bikers an adrenaline pumping route. 3.3km long and a 600m descent. The 'La Ferraz' slope includes on one descent all the challenges dreamed of by hardened riders (turns, jumps, obstacles, bridges etc.). The nearby high speed 'Grenêche' descent provides other extreme sensations, 2.7km long with a 400m descent, 19 turns through scrub and prairie. 2006 will see the development of a third downhill course and bike park.

Take a look at our review of the downhill La Ferraz route or the new north shore jump park and four cross course.
