La Clusaz is a town which cherishes its charm, maintains its traditions and takes pride in extending a warm welcome to each of its visitors. With such a wide variety of things to see and do, holidaymakers will find more than enough to make them happy here. It is both an authentic yet sporty resort, offering a wide variety of activities throughout the year as well in a friendly atmosphere.

Set in a preserved natural setting, with chalets that are hundreds of years old, this village boasts all of the appeal of a large ski resort and hot summer destination. Many shops of all kinds line the village’s streets, promising several hours of shopping in the late afternoon after a day exploring the mountans.

You’re sure to find gifts to take home to your family and friends, maybe a few local specialties, such as the famous reblochon cheese or smoked charcuterie, for which the Aravis region is renowned.

As far as the evenings go, there are endless possibilities for get-togethers and enjoyable times spent having a drink or a good meal. Traditional cheese and potato based dishes such as tartiflette and raclette, or Savoie sausages, known as diots, served in a white wine sauce will satisfy your hunger after a day spent in the fresh air! The resort’s large variety of inviting bars open their doors to you until late into the night, before you head off to the nightclubs…

Every Monday throughout the year La Clusaz hosts a market in the town centre selling local produce, bric-a-brac and clothing, which swell in the summer with the abundance of farm grown goods, perfect for presents or stocking up the fridge if you are staying on a self catered basis..

La Clusaz is a thriving town with 4 supermarkets, a cinema, post office, 3 banks, various shops selling local goods, gifts, food, clothing etc., 2 night clubs, plus loads of bars and restaurants.

 

Winter

The winter season is very special in La Clusaz, and the town swells with visitors from all over the world who come to take advantage of the fantastic skiing and winter sports that the resort has to offer. La Clusaz is famous for its' downhil, freestyle and cross country skiing with many champions having heralded from the town. Christmas and New Year celebrated in style in the town and every effort is made to make a magical wonderland for the children with lights, firework displays, father christmas, theatre events and of course the milka cow on the nursery slopes handing out free chocolate.

La Clusaz is famous for many unique winter events, such as it's moonlit skiing once a month, when the main slopes into the town and the slopeside bars stay open until 3am. It's a truly unmissable experience which adds a uniqueness to your holiday. La Clusaz also plays host to the Candide Invitational every year, when La Clusaz's freestyle champion Candide Thovex invites all the best ski and board freestylers to show off their skills. It is a fantastic event with difficult huge jumps and rails built on the piste and in the town centre.

Winter visitors who do not ski are also well catered for with numerous walking trails marked out and snowshoes available for rent in the ski hire shops. Private or group daily walks are also available throughout the winter season. There are also 4 cablecars/chairlifts which non-skiers can use to access the high mountains to take in the views or have a tasty lunch in a choosy restaurant.
Husky sled and horse drawn carriage rides, ice skating, swimming (including sauna and steam rooms) spa treatments, reflexology and massage are all other activities for the non skiing visitors.

Summer

Summers in La Clusaz are usually hotter than the UK with temperatures rising from the mid twenties in May to the high thirties in July and August. The town itself really comes alive as soon as the ski lifts open for walkers and mountain bikers and the French schools break up for the summer in mid June. The shops all swap their stock from winter skis and clothing to MTB, road bike and via ferratta equipment rentals and summer walking and climbing clothing.

The town organises numerous events with at least one major sports or cultural event every week, from Mountain bike races, paragliding competitions, running races to wine festivals, cheese festivals and country fairs.

There is a special area dedicated to activities for young children in the town centre with bouncy castles, water boat rides, mini-quads, trampolines and of course the summer luge. The créches re-open in June with children's clubs and weekly activities for older children such as climbing, MTB riding, canoeing etc., run by the towns' club des sport.The swimming pool with outdoor flumes and ice-skating rink also re-open for the summer with the forest adventure parks opening in spring.

For the adults...there is so much to downhill and xcountry MTB riding, high mountain hiking, via ferrata, escalade, mountaineering, glacier trekking, aqua hiking, quad bike riding, archery, tennis, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, paragliding. The nearby town of Le Grand Bornand, only 15 minutes away in the minibus or by ski-bus, and provides an opportunity to discover more pistes in the winter and varied walking and mountain biking trails in the winter. Geneva is the most convenient airport for La Clusaz, located just over an hour away from our chalets. A wide range of airlines (BA and swissair), including many of the budget airlines (jet2, easyjet, bmi, flybe) fly into Geneva or Chambery (flyglobespan, flybe and jet2), providing plenty of choice for wherever you're based in the UK.

Annecy, is roughly 30 minutes from La Clusaz is the closest train station, to which TGV services arrive. There is a direct coach link to la Clusaz from Annecy. There is also the Snow Train service which stops in Chambery. We can pick you up from either station, if it is arranged in advance and does not coincide with any pre-arranged transfers.

Driving is a flexible option and it's nearly all motorway from Calais to La Clusaz until Bonneville, which makes your journey a lot easier. It takes roughly 8/9 hours with a few stops from Calais, and the motorways are pretty empty but do be prepared to pay the tolls. There is ample parking close to both chalets and the Manigod apartment.
You may need snow chains though and please check that your tyres are adequate for winter conditions - it is illegal in the alpine regions if you are driving without chains, and your insurance will be invalid.
