The main summer activities are listed below, but there amongst the long list of other activities are: mountaineering, glacier trekking, aqua hiking, quad bike riding, archery, luge and tennis. There is a children's village, where activities are planned for the children in morning, afternoon and all day session. Between June and September many events are planned by the tourist office, so there is always something going on in the town and the 'reblechon festival' is not one to be missed.

And if you want to explore outside of the La Clusaz area, Annecy and it's lake is superb in the summer months for all water sports. The water is always warm enough to swim, with a selection of beaches with life guards all around it's shores. It's a favourite french holiday spot in August.

Rafting, canyoneering, canoeing and kayaking

These white water sports are all very popular in the Alps, due to the network of clean mountain streams and rivers, and good summer temperatures.

Rafting is possibly the easiest of all these sports, as an instructor on board the boat steers you through the tricky parts of the river. It is a sport which can be experienced by just about everyone, so long as you like getting wet and can swim. Rafting is particularly good in early summer when the rivers and streams are still high with melt water.

Canyoneering one of the more challenging water based sports on offer. Under the watchful eye of an experienced guide you plunge into a semi-underground environment of eroded rock in Angon, one of the best spot in the Alps. If you're hungry for adventure garnished with maximum fun and you can climb, swim, slide, float and jump, then this is for you. As a beginner or just for discovering a new canyoning site, the best is to go half-day. During the descent of the various canyons, each participant will be able to choose between jump and abseil (when it's possible). The same course can thus be "peaceful" if you choose abseiling or more extreme if you choose to jump.

Canoeing and kayaking are ideal for family trips and are a more gentle sport. Tours can be made down rivers or around the various lakes in the area.

All of these activities are arranged through various water sports centres throughout the area. As part of the holiday we will transport you to and from the centres and can provide lunch if requested.

Paragliding

This primarily summer sport, which began in the Haute Savoie in 1978, is extremely popular and the height of the Aravis chain and the warm climate provide an excellent location. Many of the sites are supplied by the winter ski lifts in La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand (2000m), so access is easy to the take off sites.

Whether you are an experienced 'glider' or beginner the locality offers facilities for all. Courses or single tandem rides can be booked through the local centres, with many of the ski instructors doubling up as paragliding instructors in the summer. It's a fantastic way to see the area from a different perspective and definitely a once in a life-time experience if you have never tried it before.

Wakeboarding, waterskiing and sailing at lake Annecy

The fresh warm lake waters at Annecy are a perfect place for some high adrenaline water sports. Sliding on the lake towed by a boat... soon as you're on the water you will enjoy the great feeling of riding our magnificent lake. Its a different way to discover one of the purest lake in Europe. This year, the water sports company we use in Annecy, provide a Malibu de 300 CV (with driver) which can take 10 people. So it's perfect for a group of friends.

Forest of adventure

Fantastic for the kids (and dads) this high wire adventure centre in Annecy offers action and adventure for all ages. La Petite Foret is for younger children from 5 years and lets the kids play at being Tarzan for an hour on rope swings, rope bridges and lower level zip wires, with supervisors on hand to make sure they are safe. This is a small scale of La Grande Foret which has a minimum height of 1.4m. The kids must be accompanied by an adult on this as the action happens high up in the trees, and involves quite a lot of rope work. The instructors all speak english and you have a de-briefing session before hand to get you used to the harnesses and how to manage you karibinis. It's excellent fun and the kids get 2.5hrs to go go wild in the trees. La Foret Equilibre is one step beyond this and you have no ropes - just large trapeze nets to catch you if you fall - not for the faint hearted! New this summer is La foret de 5 sens. A route set out amongst the forest to be accessed on foot and lets you discover the flora and fauna. It is accessible by wheelchairs and pushchairs and is a fantastic way to end the day after a lovely picnic in the forest.

Swimming

Whether you want to swim in the abundance of lakes or take to a proper pool, there is plenty on offer. La Clusaz boasts heated indoor and outdoor pools, with a flume. It offers stunning views of the snow covered pistes and lush mountains in winter and summer. Also at the pool is a gym, sauna and steam bath perfect to soak away those tired muscles! The open air pool complex at Le Grand Bornand is open May to September and provides a relaxing way to spend a hot day.
But if yo fancy some fresh water swimming the lakes at Annecy and Sallanches have sandy beaches and life guards in attendance in the peak summer months.

Cycle touring

Or road biking, as it is commonly known is a favourite past time of the French and one of the major sports in the region. The Tour de France rode through the Aravis (and past our front door) in 2004 on one of the last main mountain stages of the 'tour' which ended in Le Grand Bornand - Lance Armstrong winning after performing strongly as always. The writing still remains on the roads, and there are many local bike races (including the pre-tour qualifiers and warm ups) held through neighbouring villages throughout the summer months.
It's the ideal location, if you fancy slipping on a yellow jersey and tackling the mountains, following some of the previous 'Tour de France' routes and following in the footsteps of the great masters of this sport. In addition to these leg burners there are various easier scenic routes in the area (some with separate cycle lanes), which range in difficulty and length. Bring your own bike, or hire from one of the local shops. You will find there are always plenty of other French riders out there tackling the mountains too.

Archery, tennis, summer luge and summer events

La Clusaz offers loads of activities which will occupy you for a couple of hours or so. There are some familiar sports such as tennis, football, volleyball and mini golf or you could try your hand at archery or luge. The summer luge opens from June to september and provides a thrill as you zoom down the long windy track. Do it tandem or solo the choice is yours. The best bit is you get to ride back to the top in the cable car so you don't have to walk all the way back up to the top!

There are always loads of events planned in La Clusaz over the summer months including:
July - La Clusaz Raid, Country fair, Wine fair, MTB competition. August - Village festival, Walk in the moonlight, Reblochon festival, Belier hike/run Challenge. September - La Croix fair.

Via Ferrata

'Via ferrata' is an italian word meaning 'iron way'. The sport originates from northern Italy where it was used by the military as a method of negotiating the mountains in the Second World War.

Access to high altitude peaks is via fixed ladders, pegs, handrails, rungs and gorge-spanning footbridges. Harnesses with a simple rope and karabiner arrangement, are essential as these act as a special shock-absorbing device, in case of a fall. This sport offers eager rock climbers and adventurous walkers, the opportunity to explore routes, which would normally require climbing skills. There are three good via ferrata routes in the Aravis; La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand and Thones, which offer vertical ascents of over 750m. We can arrange hire of the equipment needed from local shops, all that you then need is some courage!

This activity is a cross between hiking and mountaineering. In La Clusaz the 700 m long via ferrata "Yves Pollet-Villard" is equipped with ladders, footbridges, ramps and cables. Situated in the Borderan Mountain, the via ferrata is near the Cols des Aravis road. Supervising is available by the Compagnie des Guides des Aravis (equipment included): Yves Pollet-Villard (La Clusaz): 51 €. La Roche à l'Agathe (Thônes): 55 €. La Tour du Jalouvre (Le Grand-Bornand): 80 €. The via ferrata is closed from November 15th till May 5th for safety reasons.

Horse-riding
Although not one of the major pastimes in the Alps, there are equine centres in the area that can offer riding facilities and run 'picnic outings' in the summer through the forests at the base of the mountains. It is an excellent way of discovering the alpine environment and can provide an alternative experience for your holiday. Half day and full day horseback riding clinics are also available.

Golf

The Alps, although not renowned as a great golfing destination, do have a few interesting summer golf courses (they usually double up as cross-coutry courses in the winter). In La Clusaz (Lac de Confin) and Le Grand Bornand (Vallee de bouchet), there are a couple of small five and nine hole courses, which are good to potter around on. The La Clusaz golf course also has a 12-bay driving range and 9-hole putting green and golf school . However, for more serious golfing, a trip down the mountain to Annecy can offer a more challenging 18 hole course on the edges of the lake.

Tennis and badmington

There are a number of courts in La Clusaz, three of which are within walking distance of Chalet Fan La Bise. Gravité has a summer memberships to all the courts in La Clusaz and can provide rackets and balls for hire at Chalet Fan La Bise and FREE access to the courts for catered guests. Badmington rackets plus shuttlecocks are also available to hire, and at Chalet Fan La Bise there is a full sized net which can be erected inthe garden. For more serious players there are courts within the town centre.

Grass boarding

This is a fun sport similar to snowboarding. The equipment is an adapted skateboard with wheels at both ends and outriggers to helpyou maintainyourbalance
