Drop off point at the Chapelle du Parc at the edge of La Clusaz.

This first part is the toughest with a slow steady climb of nearly 700m to La Tete du Danay. Follow the signs for Col des mouilles and Tete du Danay, passing the La Perriere view point. This is a well marked route and follows the 'Belier trail' until the Col de Mouille when you need to turn right and follow the track on a further uphill climb to the La Tete du Danay through the bois du Rosay. Fortunately most of the walk is through shaded woods so it’s ideal for hot days. Often this route is littered with lilly of the valley in the spring, wild strawberries in the summer, and fungi in the Autumn. Once at the top of Danay soak up the panoramic views of la Tournette, Le Grand Bornand, Col des Anne and of course the Aravis range! Return downhill in the direction of Lac des Confin towards the wooden chalet at Sur Frete. You can buy reblechon here in the summer. Right at the chalet along a rough road, then once amongst the house of Les Confin take a right to towards the small chapel, cluster of shops and restaurants. An ideal place for lunch. The Foly restaurant here is particularily good, as is the chalet du lac if they are open. Otherwise plan to take a picnic to eat by the lake. If you go in early May you will be rewarded by the sight of wild crocuses on the grassland and fogs in the lake, singing to each other as they find a mate.

You are half way at this point, and can take a bus back to La Clusaz if you are too tired or continue on the full route.

2nd half
Set off opposite the 9 hole golf course and pick up the track which circles the lake and leads onto the Tournette-Aravis/Belier route and past the excellent Chalet du Lac restaurant. This trail leads to the Le Cret du Merle and Col des Aravis through lush pine forests and over bubbling streams. Once past Le Cret de Merle you pass a small lake and continue on a fairly level path through the Bois de la Frasse, past Crevtout, under the Escalade and then down to Les Aravis d’en Bas and the Auberge du 4 Vents. From here it’s all downhill as you re-join the road back to the chalet. Follow the road past the Gotty hotel and after a couple of minutes and you will see the sign for the Piste du soleil - a right turn here brings you back for a well-earned rest!
